Toyo University and GiFT “Diversity Voyage” Program

<Outline>
-GiFT has been working with Toyo University, Japan, to conduct overseas programmes; “Diversity Voyage” since 2014 which focuses on fostering youth to develop their mind-set for Global Citizenship and  their global competencies

-Diversity Voyage aims students of Toyo University to learn about diversity and to experience collaboration and co-creation with local youth

-The programme has been held totally in 7 countries; Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia.

-215 Japanese university students including students taking teachers license
-130 University Students from participating countries (6 countries from South East Asia)

With respect to GCED focus training for future educators, new programme focusing on mainstreaming GCED into English education was conducted in the Cebu, the Philippines. 20 participants from all over Japan and Cebu joined the programme and co-created a new curriculum of the English class for the education in Cebu community. There were English teachers involved in the programme as a participant.

          

<Outcome and Learning>
-English education is vital for people in the Philippines and widely conducted by various sectors. Thus participating students contributed to embed the values of Global Citizen and attitude towards connecting and collaborating with other people, community and country to the existing English communication education.

-Children in orphanage have better command of English but it focused on how to communicate and how to build confidence as a person. This trial enable children to gain more interests and feel empathy with people from other background, through interacting with adults and students. Through the training of GCED, local English teachers understood the values of GCED and will integrate the concept of GCED and learning into their curriculum.

-Participants (future educators/educators) were able to exercise their learning and experience in school into the real-world education, and were able to learn from actual action to community, from through hypothesis to practice, review and reflection.
